We recently did a cost share thinning project at Felt Hollow with the State. This involved a swath around the house 200 feet from the house totaling about five acres. The brush and small trees were put into burn piles and the trees left standing were trimmed up 18 feet from the ground. This resulted in a good amount of poles for construction and fire wood. It was a labor intense project done mostly on steep ground!
It is not a matter of if, but when will a fire will come through. Fire protection a necessity at Felt Hollow. This is the price of living up against the forest. With our Mass Heater wood stove we can heat the house with the brush that needs clearing!
